in Tantrik philosophy, the eight qualities or states of being that bind or handicap a jīva (sentient being) and prevent one from realizing one’s true potential or essential nature which the one with Śiva (the Supreme Divine), namely: lust (kāma), anger (krodha), greed (lobha), delusion (moha), envy (īrşā), shame (lajjā), fear (bhaya) and disgust (ghŗņā) (T. Śāstra).
