Caturdhāma literally means ‘the four abodes of God’.
The four places of pilgrimage in the four corners of the country are:
- Badarīnātha in the North,
- Rāmeśvara in the South
- Jagannātha Puri in the East
- Dvārakā in the West
These are the four dhāmas or abodes of God which every person aspires to visit during his life time.
