Ekabera literally means ‘solitary murti’.
Classification of Temples
Temples of Viṣṇu are sometimes categorized into two groups:
- Ekabera temple
- Bahubera temple
Ekabera Temples
In the ekabera temples, there will be only one (= eka) permanent murti (= bera). No goddesses (consorts) like Srīdevī and Bhṅdevī or the utsava-murti will be present. Worship is offered to the single deity in the temple. The term ekbera does not apply to the parivāra-devatās or attendant deities, which may be installed in the appropriate places.
