Kanyādāna

Kanyādāna is an important rite wherein the father of the bride gifts her to the groom. While doing so he asks him not to transgress her in:

• Dharma - religious rites
• Artha - worldly welfare
• Kāma - sexual desire

The groom responds saying ‘I shall not do so’ or ‘nāticarāmi’.
