Sandhyā literally means ‘junction of day and night’.

Sandhyā as Religious Rite[edit]

The religious rite to be performed at dawn and dusk by the dvijas, the ‘twice- born’, brāhmaṇas, kṣattriyas and vaiśyas is called as sandhyā or sandhyāvandana.

Sandhyā, Denotation for Time[edit]

The word is also used to indicate the intervening period between two yugas.
