Suryopasthāna

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Suryopasthāna is repeating the prayer addressed to the deity Gāyatrī in the orb of the sun in the standing posture facing the sun.[1] This is the last rite of bidding farewell to the goddess after having invoked her and satiated her through japa. Apart from the sun, the mountain Meru is sometimes described as her abode.
