Divodāsa is a common name referred in the Ṛgveda, the epics and the purāṇas. Various Divodāsa include:

  1. Son of Vadhryaśva: Divodāsa Atithigva, son of Vadhryaśva, was a leading prince among the Bharatas. He was the father (or grandfather) of the famous king Sudāsa mentioned in the ‘daśarājña’ or the ‘battle of the ten kings’.[1] Sambara who was the chieftain of the mountain tribes was his enemy.
  2. Son of Bhīmasena: Divodāsa was the son of Bhīmasena, the king of Kāśī. Divodāsa's queen were Mādhavī and Pratardana. He had a valiant son who vanquished Vitahavya, the king of the Haihayas.
  3. Son of Bharmyaśva: Another Divodāsa has been mentioned in the purāṇas as the son of Bharmyaśva and brother of the famous Ahalyā.[2]
  4. Re-incarnation of Dhanvantari: This Divodāsa is considered as a reincarnation of Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods in heaven, and the teacher of Suśruta.[3]
