Dundubhi, a asura[edit]

Dundubhi was born as the son of Mayāsura and Hemā. He was a ferocious asura. Māyāvi was his brother and Maṇḍodarī[1] was his sister.

Puffed up with the arrogance of strength acquired by austerities and boons, he challenged Varuṇa and Himavān[2] for a duel. They advised him to fight with Vāli, who was the best adversary for him. However, Vāli ultimately killed him after a fierce fight.

Dundubhi, A Princess[edit]

Dundubhi was a Gandharva princess reborn as Mantharā (due to a curse) and served as the hand-maid of Kaikeyī, the youngest queen of Daśaratha. She played a vital role in creating the palace intrigues that led to the banishment of Rāma to the forest.
